Nate L. Adams, III

Admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 1981, Mr. Adams has tried or argued cases at every level of the Virginia courts and, with the sole exception of the U.S. Supreme Court,  the federal courts. He concentrates his practice in business litigation, incorporation law, workers' compensation, employment law for both employers and employees, and personal injury.

Mr. Adams graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1977 with an A.B. He later graduated from the Washington and Lee University School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctor in 1981.

Mr. Adams is active in the Winchester community. Currently, he serves on the Handley Board of Trustees and is its designated representative to the Board of Directors for the Winchester Education Foundation. Additionally, he has served as Chairman of the City of Winchester Planning Commission, Chairman of the City of Winchester Board of Zoning Appeals, and as President of the Board of Directors for Blue Ridge Hospice. He previously served on the Winchester-Frederick County Economic Development Commission and its Executive Committee, and the President's Roundtable for Shenandoah University. He is a co-founder and former Director of the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum.

Nate L. Adams, III, Lawyers, Winchester, VA

 Mr. Adams served as the President of the Winchester-Frederick County Bar Association from 2013 to 2014. He has participated in the Frederick County Schools' Gifted Independent Studies Program for over 10 years, mentoring junior and senior high school students interested in law. Mr. Adams has also mentored students from Shenandoah University who have an interest in the legal field.

Mr. Adams has been featured by both Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in America. In addition, the Virginia Lawyers Weekly (a statewide legal publication) recognized his legal efforts in a case involving an employment contract containing restrictive covenants. Mr. Adams has also participated as a featured speaker in seminars sponsored by the Winchester-Frederick County Chamber of Commerce and Blue Ridge Hospice, addressing employment and end-of-life legal issues, respectively.


Michelle Morris Jones

Ms. Jones is a principal of Adams and Jones and has over 24 years of legal experience. She concentrates her practice in family law, including contested and uncontested divorces and separations; wills, trusts, and related estate planning; small business formation; local government law; and general civil litigation. Ms. Jones received her B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1989, and her J.D. from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond in 1994, becoming licensed to practice law in Virginia later that same year.

In addition to her dedication to serving her clients and representing their legal interests, Ms. Jones has a demonstrated commitment to service of her legal and local communities. She has been a member of the Family Law Section of the Virginia State Bar since she began practicing law in 1994 and now serves on its Board of Governors. Ms. Jones authored Rebutting Parental Presumption in Third Party Custody Cases, which appeared in the Summer 2018 issue of the Virginia Family Law Quarterly. She also helped plan and organize the 33rd Annual Advanced Family Law Seminar and the 36th Annual Family Law Seminar. She was editor of the Docket Call newsletter from 1998-2001, and co-editor of Lex Claudia in 2002. In addition to her Family Law Section membership, she is a member of the Wills, Trusts, and Estates and Local Government Law Sections of the Virginia State Bar, the Winchester-Frederick County Bar Association (previous secretary), and the Clarke County Bar Association. She was recognized by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children with their Award of Merit on March 6, 2001.

Her current community involvement includes serving as an appointed member of the Clarke County Conservation Easement Authority since 2014, and as a board member of the Foundation of the State Arboretum at Blandy Farm since 2015. 

Michelle Morris Jones, Lawyers, Winchester, VA

In the past, she was a director of the Clarke County Education Foundation, the Clarke County Rotary Club (Rotarian of the Year for 1999-2000), and the Winchester-Frederick County SPCA.
Ms. Jones is a resident of Clarke County, Virginia. She appears in courts in Winchester and the counties of Frederick, Clarke, Warren, and Shenandoah. She meets with clients in our offices in Winchester and Berryville.


Carolyn Scully Fitzwater

Carolyn "Callie" Scully Fitzwater is an associate attorney at Adams and Jones. She was born and raised in Winchester. Upon her graduation from John Handley High School in 2004, she attended Roanoke College in Salem, where she acquired a B.A. in business administration. Callie then received her J.D. from West Virginia University School of Law in Morgantown, WV. While in law school, she was an active member of Public Interest Advocates, an organization which promotes public interest lawyering. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Psi.

After being admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 2014, Callie joined Adams and Jones. She maintains a general practice including domestic relations, landlord and tenant issues, and general civil litigation. She is certified by the Virginia Supreme Court to serve as a guardian ad litem for children. Callie is a member of the Virginia Bar Association and the Winchester-Frederick County Bar Association as well.

A supporter of the community, Callie has been active in the Winchester community as a member of the Rotary Club. She currently serves as a volunteer for the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival.
